China stunned fans and pundits alike when they upset Kuwait 2-0 in their group opener. The game took a decisive turn when Mesaed Neda was sent off in the 36^th minute for Kuwait. China capitalized in the second half with goals from Zhang Linpeng and Deng Zhuoxiang. Coach Gao Hongbo is expected to go in with the same eleven that played against Kuwait.

Qatar were outplayed in their opener by a strong Uzbek side and their defensive frailties were horribly exposed by the Uzbek attackers. The second goal in particular was effectively gifted on a platter to the Uzbeks. The home fans made their anger known as they poured out of the stadium in droves a good 20 minutes before the end of the game.
