Since 1996, the two teams have contested four Asian Cup quarterfinals and will be playing their fifth on Saturday. In 1996, Iran thrashed the Taegeuk Warriors 6-2 but South Korea avenged it with an extra time win in the 2000 edition in Lebanon. The 2004 edition saw Iran prevail in a seven goal thriller thanks to Ali Karimi’s hat trick, while the Koreans won on penalties in 2007.

Iran are also the only team with a 100% record in the Asian Cup. They swept aside defending champions Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and 2010 World Cup finalists North Korea to finish on top of Group D with nine points.

Koo Ja-cheol has been in excellent form for Korea and has netted in each of their three group games so far. The Koreans finished second in Group B on goal difference behind Australia.
