Defending champions Iraq play arch-rivals Iran in their opening game of the 2011 Asian Cup. With a lot of strong teams vying for the top prize, Iraq will have to play out of their skins to retain the title they won four years ago. His major task will be to get the Iranians to play as a cohesive unit. Javad Nekounam and Masoud Shojaei are the only two squad players based out of Iran.
