Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni may be forced to make a few changes for this tie. Goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima was not allowed to play against Saudi on disciplinarian grounds. He will be back for the quarter finals and replace Shusaku Nishikawa. Keisuke Honda and Daisuke Matsui have niggling injuries and will have to pass late fitness tests. Defender Atsuto Uchida is suspended for this clash.

Bruno Metsu’s Qatar will have to do without the services of sturdy right-back Mohammed Kasola, who like Uchida, is suspended after collecting two yellows in the group fixtures. Qatar started off the tournament with a loss to Uzbekistan but bounced back to secure wins over China and Kuwait and qualify from Group A behind the Uzbeks.
