The co-hosts of the 2002 World Cup, Japan and South Korea, will lock horns in the second semi-final of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Both teams were knocked out at this stage in the previous edition and will be keen to improve upon last time’s performance. Japan staged a miraculous comeback to get past Qatar in the quarter-finals. A man down and a goal down after 63 minutes, they scored twice through Kagawa and Inoha to stun the home crowd. Maya Yoshida’s red card makes him ineligible for this tie. The two goalkeeping errors by Eiji Kawashima against Qatar would also be a cause of concern for Samurai manager Alberto Zaccheroni. 

A stunning left footed strike from outside the area by Yoon Bit-Garam in extra time secured South Korea’s passage into the last four. That might still not be able to guarantee him a spot in the first eleven as Korean gaffer Cho Kwang-Rae is expected to go in with the same side that started the semifinal against Iran.
