Kuwait warmed up for the Asian Cup in style by thrashing Zambia 4-0 in their last game. All four goals for Al Azraq came in the first half of the fixture. Youssef Nassir set Kuwait on their way midway through the first half. Striker Badr al-Mutawa also scored for the Gulf side, sandwiched between two goals for midfielder Fahad al-Inizi.

Despite being the bottom seeds in the group, Kuwait are dark horses for the tournament, having won both the West Asian Football Federation Championship and the Gulf Cup of Nations last year under the guidance of Serbian coach Goran Tufegdzic.

Kuwait and China have met three times in the last decade. Both teams have won one game apiece with the last meeting in November 2009 ending in a 2-2 draw. China have never won the Asian Cup, but have finished as runners up on two occasions.
