The Uzbeks ran out convincing winners over hosts Qatar in the inaugural game of the tournament. A brilliant long range effort from defender Odil Ahmedov broke the deadlock in the second half. Captain Server Djeparov sealed the win when he took advantage of some slack Qatar defending and netted Uzbekistan’s second of the game.

Kuwait slumped to a surprise loss against China in their group opener. The turning point of the game was without a doubt the dismissal of defender Mesaed Nada for a foul on China’s Yang Xu. Kuwait had to immediately sacrifice a forward and China made the most of their one man advantage to take home all three points. Nada is therefore suspended for this clash against the Uzbeks.
