With neither team assured of a spot in the quarter finals nor eliminated from the tourney, the last round of games in Group A promises to have some nerve wracking moments. In the first game of the third round in Group A, Angola battle Algeria at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda. Watch Angola v Algeria live streaming with Ole Ole Football.
Angola are on top of Group A with four points. They need just a draw against Algeria to make it to the next round. If Palancas Negras lose to Algeria, they still have a chance to qualify. But for that to happen, the game between Mali and Malawi needs to end in a draw. All in all, Angola already have one foot in the quarter finals and barring something disastrous, they should be able to make it to the next round.
Injuries are the main concern for the Black Antelopes. Dede hobbled off the pitch in the first game. Influential midfielder Giberto limped off in the first half against Malawi. The tournament’s top goal scorer Flavio also had to come off as a result of a hamstring pull. Djama and Manucho will have to deputise in the absence of these key players. Algeria scored a vital win against Mali in the second round but that might not prove to be enough. Les Fennecs need to win against Angola to ensure qualification. A loss would mean elimination. If Algeria draw against Angola and if Mali defeat Malawi, then the Desert Foxes go through.
Algeria are facing problems off the pitch. Khaled Lemmouchia has left the tournament citing “family reasons”. Rafik Saifi is also considering quitting the tournament. Reports also indicate that Faouzi Chaouchi threw several punches at team-mate Mohamed Ousserir during a training session.
