The Squirrels were beaten 1-0 by Nigeria in their second game. Everton striker Yakubu's 42^nd minute penalty ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides. The penalty was conceded by Benin's Romuald Boco, who was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Benin's chances of qualifying have all but evaporated after the loss to Nigeria. The Squirrels now need to beat Egypt and hope that Mozambique beat Nigeria in the other game. At the same time, the Squirrels' margin of victory against Egypt needs to be either equal or more than Mozambique's margin of victory against the Super Eagles.

Ahmed Fathi crossed from the wing with the aim of finding Emad Moteab, but the unfortunate Dario, who was in the middle, put the ball past own his own keeper. Egyptian skipper Ahmed Hassan set up Mohamed Nagy Geddo for the second. Geddo received the ball just outside the box, turned and fired an unstoppable volley past Mambas keeper Kapango.
