Ghana had to overcome a strong Angola side who were being backed by a partisan crowd in the quarter finals. A solitary goal by Gyan Asamoah proved to be enough for Milovan Rajevac’s men. Udinese midfielder Kwawdo Asamoah stole the ball off Flavio and played a pin point long ball to the feet of Gyan who slotted coolly past the keeper with a clinical finish. Ghana held on nervously as Manucho missed a couple of gilt edged chances and made it to the last four.
Gyan had to be replaced in the 62nd minute with a hamstring problem but will be fit for this crucial encounter. Eric Addo and Haminu Dramani made their first appearances in the tournament against Angola. Anthony Annan also has been declared fit for the tie.
Nigeria advanced to the last four with a stuttering win against the Copper Bullets. After failing to pierce Zambia’s defence for 120 minutes, they slotted home all five penalties to book a place in the last four. Hapoel Tel Aviv goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was the hero for the Super Eagles as he saved a spot kick by Nyrienda and then scored the winning penalty himself to dump Zambia out of the tournament.
Onyekachi Apam will miss the game due to the red card he picked up in the last game. The Super Eagles have also been rocked by a hamstring injury to defender Joseph Yobo who has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.
