Both these teams met in the second phase of qualification for this tournament and the World Cup. Ivory Coast emerged victors on both occasions. Will Burkina Faso avenge their defeats against Les Elephants? Watch Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso live on Ole Ole Football to find out.
Ivory Coast have performed pretty well in their last two outings at the ACN. They finished runners-up to Egypt in 2006 and lost in the semi finals to Ghana in 2008. With 2010 ACN possibly being the last tournament for stars like Didier Drogba and Kolo Toure, Vahid Halihodzic’s men would be looking to lift the trophy this time around.
Ivory Coast have plenty of options in attack with the likes of Drobga, Kalou and Dindane battling for a starting spot. Their midfield will be bolstered by the presence of Kader Keita, Yaya Toure and Didier Zokora. They also have a formidable defence with Kolo Toure, Artur Boka, Emmanuel Eboue and Abdoulaye Meite manning it. Lack of concentration and over confidence would be the two things coach Halihodzic would want his men to guard against.
Burkina Faso come into the tournament having missed the last two CAN. Their best performance came in 1998, when they finished fourth. With the appointment of Portugese coach Paulo Duarte, Les Etalons have swiftly climbed climbed up the rankings. They lie in 49th place in the FIFA rankings and are 8th in Africa.
Burkina Faso’s focal point in attack will be Al-Khor striker Moumouni Dagano, who scored twelve goals during qualification. Another player to watch out for is tricky Hamburger SV winger Jonathan Pitroipa.
Having played Ivory Coast twice in qualifying, Burkina Faso would be well aware of the Elephants’ tactics and style of play. Will Burkina Faso be able to secure a memorable win? Sign up with Ole Ole Football to find out.
