After a shock defeat to minnows Malawi, Algeria’s second game in Group A sees them play Mali at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda. Mali completed the mother of all comebacks when they came from 0-4 down in the 78th minute to salvage a 4-4 draw against Angola. The draw not only kept their hopes of qualification alive but also deflated the hosts’ spirits. A win for Mali against the wounded Algerians would more or less confirm their spot in the last eight.

Juventus midfielder Momo Sissoko did not make an appearance against Angola and may start. Barcelona star Seydou Keita, who initiated the turnaround and scored twice in the game, also may be given a start against the Algerians after coming off the bench against Mali. Bakary Soumare, Mahamadou Diarra and Mahamane Traore are on one yellow card. Another booking for any of the trio will result in suspension for them against Malawi.

Rabah Saadane’s men were humiliated by Malawi in their opening game and one could see a host of changes in the starting line-up as Saadane looks to save his team from elimination and possibly his job as head coach.

Algeria had nine players in the starting line-up who play in the European league, but neither of them could impact the proceedings against Malawi. Saifi and Ghezzal were uninspiring in front of goal. Saadane might even start with youngsters like Djamel Abdoun and Hameur Bouzza to rejuvenate the midfield. Algeria’s most experienced midfielder Karim Ziani picked up a yellow card in the opening game and is one booking away from suspension.
