The two minnows of Group C square off against each other in the second game to be played at Complexo da Sr. da Graca in Benguela. Neither Mozambique nor Benin have a realistic chance of making it to the quarter final and a defeat in this game could mean the end of the road for them in CAN 2010. Mart Nooij has worked wonders with this Mozambique side. Considered rank outsiders to qualify, Mozambique were fortunate to make it to the second phase. The withdrawal of Eritrea and the exclusion of Ethiopia triggered a chain of events which saw them qualify ahead of teams like Senegal and Gambia who had more points than the Mambas. In the second stage, the Mambas got creditable results at home against Kenya, Tunisia and Nigeria but struggled away from home.

All Mozambique hopes will be pinned on Jomo Cosmos striker Tico-Tico who is the all-time top scorer in the South African League. At 36, this would represent his last shot at international glory. He will have a strong attacking partnership with Dario. Another player to look out for is Simao Junior who plays for Panathinaikos in Greece and is regarded as one of the most promising young players in Europe.

Benin have not earned a single point in their previous six games in the competition. The “Squirrels” qualified strongly with a win over Ghana and a draw against Mali. Coach Michel Dussuyer has seen his side rise to 59th in the FIFA standings and a win against Mozambique will not be beyond them.

The better players in their line-up include FC Metz striker Razak Omotoyossi and Pascal Angan who plays in Morocco. The star of their side is undoubtedly PSG’s midfield dynamo Stephane Sessegnon. A lot would depend on him if Benin have to progress to the next round. Join us today and watch live African Cup of Nations on your computer.
