Starting Wednesday, July 29th, The Premier League, Barclays and the Beijing Football Associaton will all team up to bring you the Barclays Asia Trophy Beijing 2009. Four teams step forward to try to claim this trophy, and the title, Tottenham Hotspur, Hull City, West Ham United and hometown boys Beijing Guoan. This tournament is one of the premier events at the very first Beijing Football International Festival, held for the first time ever in 2009. The thing that makes this tournament so exciting is the quality of the teams stepping up to take the field, and you can catch all the action right here on oleolefootball.watchlive.net.
These teams play in a knockout format, over two days of games, on July 29th and 31st. The Worker's Stadium is where it all happens, with a potential 50,000 fans watching. Hull City and Beijing Guoan will be the second game of the first day of play, kicking off at 1:30PM BST, with West Ham United and Tottenham playing earlier in the day. On Friday, the play with continue with the bottom two teams battling it out for third place, and the two winners in the final later that day. Ian Ashbee is the skipper for Hull City with the team going all the way to the FLC playoffs and walking away with the win in the 2007-2008 season, and Football League One runners-up in the 2004-2005 season.
As for Beijing Guoan, the team that has been through more than ten different name changes since 1955, they will be bringing their strongest players to the field, likely including Captain Zhang Yonghai, with several victories under their belts, including two Super Cup championships and three FA Cup wins.
