Blackburn beat Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough 5-2 in the fourth round. Rovers took the lead through Norwegian midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen in the 4^th minute, but Chris Whelpdale headed Peterborough back into the game from Tommy Brown’s cross thirteen minutes later. Steven Reid put Blackburn ahead from the spot on the stroke of half time, but George Boyd levelled for Posh immediately after the break.

However goals from former Real Madrid defender Michel Salgado and South African striker Benni McCarthy made it 4-2 to Rovers, and Croatian Nikola Kalinic bagged his first goal for Rovers when he converted a 74^th minute penalty to make it 5-2. Midfielder David Dunn is a doubt for Chelsea’s visit to Ewood Park with a calf injury.

Chelsea thrashed Bolton 4-0 in the fourth round, keeping their second straight clean sheet in this season’s Carling Cup. Salomon Kalou’s header from Paulo Ferreira’s cross put the Blues ahead before French winger Florent Malouda made it 2-0 on 26 minutes.

Deco and Didier Drogba then struck in the second half as the Blues completed a comfortable 4-0 victory over Gary Megson’s men. Chelsea had beaten Queens Park Rangers 1-0 in the third round of the competition.
