After three Premier League games, Stoke sit in ninth position in the league table with four points, coming from one win, one draw and one defeat (to Liverpool last Wednesday evening by 4-0).

For their part, Leyton Orient come into the cup game with Stoke on the back of a 3-3 draw away to Yeovil in their league One match. In an entertaining game in which they took the lead as early as the fifth minute, they found themselves 2-1 down by the 40^th minute. An equaliser just before half time brought them level, only for them to fall behind again on 52 minutes. Nine minutes later they were level, but try as they could they couldn’t find that elusive winner.
