Man United crushed Hull City 4-0 on Saturday to make up for the disappointment of losing the first leg a few days ago. Wayne Rooney put the Red Devils ahead on eight minutes, slotting home the rebound after Paul Scholes’ fierce effort had stung the palms of Hull keeper Boaz Myhill. A nicely worked move from United saw Rooney make it 2-0 on 82 minutes and the striker grabbed his hat trick four minutes later when he headed in Nani’s cross.
There was still time for a fourth in injury time as Rooney collected Dimitar Berbatov’s pass and fired a low shot after evading three Hull defenders who were surrounding him. The win put United on top of the table as Arsenal and Chelsea were not in Premier League action due to their FA Cup commitments.
Man City also scored four in their weekend game, which was a FA Cup clash against Scunthorpe United. Manager Roberto Mancini made eight changes to the side that had won the first leg and gave young Norwegian midfielder Abdisalam Ibrahim his debut.
City were off the blocks in a flash when Martin Petrov put them ahead in the 3rd minute. Further goals from Nedum Onouha, Sylvinho and Robinho allowed City to overcome Nigel Adkins’ battling Championship side 4-2.
The winner of this tie will meet Aston Villa in the finals. Will it be City or will it be defending champions United? Sign up and watch live football streaming at its very best from your control panel at Ole Ole Football.
