Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough go head to head in the second round of the Carling Cup at the County Ground. Nottm Forest defeated League Two Bradford 3-0 at the County Ground in the first round. Forest won comfortably with goals from Paul Anderson, Dexter Blackstock and Lewis McGugan. Forest have not made the best of starts in the Championship under highly rated boss Billy Davies and face a tough challenge against a Middlesbrough side that have maintained a good Premier League squad, despite being relegated to the Championship.

Middlesbrough have had a good start to life in the Championship. The former Premier League side are one of the favourites to win the division. Boro have finished twice runners-up in the League Cup and it is also the only piece of major silverware the club have ever won, Steve McClaren’s side winning it in 2004 and qualifying for Europe. The following season the club made it through to the UEFA Cup final eventually losing to Sevilla in the final.

Boro have done well to keep hold of most of their players, with the exception of England winger Stewart Downing, who joined Aston Villa. England under-21 star Adam Johnson has came in to replace the winger and has already shined on the left wing. They have also kept highly rated defender David Wheater and Turkish striker Tuncay Sanli.
