Since their 2-1 loss to Ajax in the Netherlands on Match Day 3, Auxerre have embarked on a winning run by beating Paris Saint-Germain, Bastia, and most recently, OGC Nice. Even better for AJA, they kept a clean sheet in two of those three games.

Against Nice, a goal in either half from Valter Birsa and Benoit Pedretti was enough for Jean Fernandez’s men to overcome their rivals. Birsa also scored Auxerre’s only goal when they went down 2-1 to Ajax a fortnight ago.

Auxerre will be looking at their February 2005 win over Ajax at Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps for inspiration on Wednesday evening. On that day, goals from Bonaventure Kalou, Benoit Cheyrou and Lionel Mathis sent AJA into the last sixteen of the erstwhile UEFA Cup at the expense of the Dutch giants.

Ajax thrashed Heracles 4-1 in their last game. Goals from Mounir El Hamdaoui, Rasmus Lindgren, Andre Ooijer and Miralem Sulejmani gave Martin Jol’s side a comfortable league victory at home and allowed them to catch up with PSV Eindhoven.
