AZ took the lead against Roda through Jeremain Lens, but found themselves trailing after Pa Modou Kah and Jeanvion Matondo scored on either side of the break to put Roda 2-1 ahead. Swedish youngster Rasmus Elm made it 2-2 on 70 minutes, and Lens scored his second of the game to put AZ 3-2 ahead with fifteen minutes to go. Substitute Jonathas wrapped up things in the 80th minute as AZ ran out 4-2 winners.
AZ were crushed 4-1 by Arsenal on Match Day 4. Jeremain Lens scored the only goal of the game for Ronald Koeman’s men. Moroccan forward Mounir El Hamdaoui will miss this game as he continues to recover from a torn muscle in his left leg.
Olympiacos’ hopes of qualifying received a setback when they were beaten 2-0 by Standard on Match Day 4. The Greek side have won two and lost two in the Champions League so far, and will be assured of atleast a Europa League spot if they draw or beat AZ.
Olympiacos beat AZ 1-0 when these two sides met on Match Day 1. Vasilis Torosidis netted the winner in the 79th minute, thereby handing AZ their first defeat against Greek opposition in a competitive European fixture.
