Barcelona progressed to this stage with a 6-3 aggregate victory over French champions Lyon. Josep Guardiola’s side drew 1-1 in France in the first leg, but won the second leg 5-2 at the Nou Camp. Barcelona haven’t lost to a German team in the last 11 Champions League clashes and have only lost once at home to a German side in eight meetings. The only defeat coming to their opponents in this tie, back in the 1998/99 season.

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta should be available after missing recent games through a thigh problem. Midfielders Aliaksandr Hleb and Yaya Toure are doubts, defenders Eric Abidal and Gabriel Milito are both still out injured.

Bayern Munich made it into the quarter finals by hammering Sporting Lisbon 12-1 on aggregate. The Bavarian side scored a fantastic 5-0 away victory in Lisbon and then beat Sporting even more comprehensively 7-1 at the Allianz Arena. Bayern have a poor record against Spanish clubs in the Champions League, winning just one out of the last seven games against Spanish opponents. Their only victory coming at Barcelona’s arch rivals Real Madrid in 2007 and losing five games from seven.

Defenders Martin Demichelis and Daniel Van Buyten may return to the Bayern squad after missing the weekend clash with Wolfsburg. Jurgen Klinsmann have major doubts over striker Miroslav Klose and midfielder Hamit Altintop, but Italian striker Luca Toni may play after returning to full training and being in the squad for the Wolfsburg game.
