Barcelona and Chelsea meet at the Nou Camp in the first leg semi final of the Champions League. Barcelona are touted as possibly the best attacking team in the world and they are in superb form, but English side Chelsea are no pushovers and will be looking to gain an advantage for the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week. Barcelona have been in sensational form this season in both La Liga and the Champions League. They are on course to win the Spanish title and are also hot favourites to win this competition. Barca got through to the semi-finals with a 5-1 aggregate victory over German champions Bayern Munich. In the first leg goals from Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto’o and a brace from Lionel Messi were enough to secure a 4-0 victory. The second leg resulted in a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena, Seydou Keita cancelling out Franck Ribery’s strike. The end result just enforced the impression that Barcelona are a deadly attacking force.

Their attack is spearheaded by superstar Lionel Messi, the Argentinean youngster has scored an unbelievable 33 goals in all competitions this season. Barca also has the dangerous Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o who has scored 30 goals in all this season.

Chelsea got through to the semi finals by beating Liverpool 7-5 on aggregate. The first leg saw Chelsea snatch an excellent 3-1 victory at Anfield. Defender Branislav Ivanovic was the hero scoring twice, after Fernando Torres had gave the home the lead. Didier Drogba scored the third goal to give the Blues a two goal cushion for the second leg.

The second leg was one of the best ever Champions League games as the game finished 4-4 at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool took a two goal lead through goals from Fabio Aurelio and a Xavi Alonso penalty. Chelsea came back with goals from Didier Drogba and Alex to make it all square on the night. Frank Lampard made it 3-2 to the home side before the away side scored goals though Lucas and Dirk Kuyt. Frank Lampard scored his brace to round the game off and clinch a place in the semi finals.

Michael Mancienne will start the game at left back, with regular left back Ashley Cole suspended after picking up a booking in that second leg against Liverpool. Centre back Ricardo Carvalho will also miss the clash with a hamstring strain, John Terry and Brazilian Alex are likely to start at the centre of defence, in the absence of the Portuguese star.
