Barca slumped to a 3-1 defeat against Inter at the San Siro last week and need to score at least two goals against the Nerazzurri to keep their hopes of reaching next month’s final alive. Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola rested several of his star players in the weekend game against Xerez. Los Cules won the game 3-1, but not before enduring several nervy moments against the Andalusian outfit.

Like Barcelona, Inter also won their weekend Serie A game 3-1 against Atalanta. The visitors took a shock lead through Simone Tirribocchi before goals from Diego Milito, Christian Chivu and Sulley Muntari brought them back to reality. Inter are sweating on the fitness of Dutch playmaker Wesley Sniejder, who scored one of their three goals in the first leg.

Defending champions Barcelona host Italian league leaders Inter Milan in one of the most eagerly anticipated ties of Matchday five. All four teams in Group F are separated by just two points with Inter leading the pack with six. Barcelona have run into troubled waters both on and off the field. Having drawn three of their last five League games, they have conceded the top spot in the League to Real Madrid. And anything less than a win in this tie could see them seriously jeopardize their chances of qualification.

The swine flu epidemic is causing great distress to Barcelona. Rafael Marquez, Eric Abidal and Yaya Toure have been hit by the virus and will not take any part in the game. Also, there are serious concerns over the participation of either Lionel Messi or Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the game. Inter, on the other hand, are going great guns in the domestic League. They top the Serie A table and have a eight point lead at the top. The game also marks the return of Samuel Eto’o, Jose Mourinho and Thiago Motta to Camp Nou. The Nerazzurri will be without injured Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder though.
