The reigning Swiss champions enjoyed a very successful October as they drew one and won four of their five competitive fixtures. One of those victories was a stunning 3-1 upset of Roma in the Giallorossi’s own backyard- the Stadio Olimpico, on Match Day 3 of the Champions League.

Basel’s last fixture was against Bellinzona in the Swiss League. Thorsten Fink’s side prevailed 3-1 with Australian striker Scott Chipperfield netting a goal on either side of Federico Almerares’ 41^st minute strike.

Roma, who have turned in several below par performances this season, beat US Lecce 2-0 last weekend. Second half goals from Nicolas Burdisso and Mirko Vucinic gave Claudio Ranieri’s men a much needed win. The win was however overshadowed by the dismissal of the Giallorossi’s talismanic playmaker Francesco Totti.
