Bayern are third in Group A behind already qualified Bordeaux and Juventus. They are four points behind Juventus with two rounds remaining, which means victory for Juventus in France will signal elimination for Bayern from the Champions League even if they beat Maccabi at home.

Bayern were only able to draw against leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Mario Gomez’s 8^th minute strike gave Bayern the lead, but Leverkusen replied six minutes later through Stefan Kiebling. It was Bayern’s fourth draw of the season, and left their fans disappointed with the outcome of the fixture dubbed the “game of the season” by club general manager Uli Hoeness.

It has been a forgettable Champions League campaign for Maccabi Haifa. They are the joint top scorers in the Israeli Ligat Al, but have failed to score even once in Group A so far. They cannot qualify for the Round of 16, but a win against Bayern will see them back in contention for a Europa League spot.

Maccabi thrashed Maccabi Ahi Nazareth 4-1 in the Ligat Al on Saturday. Yaniv Katan’s third minute penalty, coupled with goals from Vladimirs Dvalisvilli and Shola Arbeitman gave Maccabi a 3-0 lead at half time. Baram Kayal added a fourth early in the second half as Maccabi picked up their tenth win in as many league games.
