Lisandro Lopez put Lyon ahead in the 10^th minute at Stade Gerland, but Bordeaux responded four minutes later through Marouane Chamakh. The tall Moroccan forward headed in Yoan Gourcuff’s perfect cross past Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris. Brazilian Michel Fernandes Bastos restored OL’s lead in the 32^nd minute. Bordeaux defender Benoit Tremoulinas failed to get his head to Miralem Pjanic’s cross and the ball bobbled to an unmarked Bastos, who fired past Carasso in the Bordeaux goal.

 Lyon made it 3-1 when Mathieu Chalme was penalised for handling Cissokho’s effort, thereby allowing Lopez to claim his second of the night from the spot. However Lopez and Sidney Govou are suspended for the return leg at Stade Chaban Delmas after picking up yellow cards in the first leg. Alou Diarra returns from suspension for Bordeaux.
