L’OM needed late goals from Lucho Gonzalez and Bakari Kone to settle the issue against Nice. The visitors took the lead through Mamadou Niang’s 19^th minute effort, but Nice fought back through Kafoumba Coulibaly. The dismissal of Nice’s Onyekachi Apam for a foul on Gabriel Heinze proved to be a major turning point, but Marseille had to wait for Gonzalez and Kone to score to make their one man advantage count.

Heinze is one booking away from a European ban. Didier Deschamps’ men have won one and lost one at home in Group C so far, losing 2-1  to Milan on Match Day 2 and crushing Zurich 6-1 on Match Day 4.

Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Zurich on Match Day 5 put them in pole position to qualify from Group C. Los Merengues won thanks to Gonzalo Higuain’s 18^th minute goal. Even if Real lose to Marseille, they will still qualify, unless OM beat them by a huge margin.

Real Madrid won 4-2 against Almeria in La Liga on Saturday. It was an eventful game for playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo who created a goal, missed a penalty and scored himself before getting sent off in the dying minutes of the game. Sergio Ramos, Higuain and Karim Benzema were the other scorers for Real at the Santiago Bernabeu. Kaka missed the Almeria game, and is a doubt for Real’s trip to Stade Velodrome.
