Sevilla lead Group F with nine points out of a possible nine after three fixtures. They have scored nine goals in these three games, second only to Real Madrid in the group stages so far. A win at home would confirm Sevilla’s presence in the last sixteen of the Champions League.
Manolo Jimenez’s men were up against minnows Xerez in La Liga on Saturday, and emerged 2-0 winners thanks to goals in either half from Alvaro Negredo and Luis Fabiano. Fabiano, a candidate for the FIFA World Player of the Year award, will be keen to add to his tally of two goals in the competition. Sevilla are currently third in the Spanish league with nineteen points, behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Stuttgart have struggled to get going in Europe this season. Two 1-1 draws against Rangers and Unirea Urziceni were followed by a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sevilla at home on Match Day 3. A brace from former Monaco defender Sebastien Squillaci and a 55th minute Jesus Navas strike put Sevilla 3-0 ahead at the Mercedes Benz Arena before Elson grabbed a consolation goal for Stuttgart.
Stuttgart drew 0-0 with Bayern Munich in the league on Saturday. The pressure is growing on coach Markus Babbel to turn things around, and a first ever win in Spain on Wednesday night could kick start the process.
