Dutch champions AZ Alkmaar can spoil Standard’s evening and qualify for the Europa League at the expense of their Belgian neighbours when the two sides meet in Group H on Wednesday. Standard did not help their chances of qualifying for the last sixteen on Match Day 5 as they lost 2-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. The Belgian side are on four points from five games, three behind Olympiakos and one ahead of AZ. Eliaquim Mangala and Mehdi Carcela Gonzalez are suspended for Standard.

Standard’s last game was a 2-2 draw against Germinal Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League. Germinal took the lead through Bart Goor, but Standard replied through Milan Jovanovic’s 57^th minute strike. Tosin Dosinmu restored Germinal’s lead, but Standard again equalised through Igor de Camargo twenty minutes from time.

AZ played out a goalless stalemate against Olympiakos on Match Day 5, a result that put paid to their ambitions of qualifying from Group H. The Dutch side can only qualify for the Europa League now, and they must beat Standard to clinch third place.

AZ lost to Vitesse Arnhem in their last Eredivisie game. They took the lead through Moussa Dembele, but paid the penalty for not being able to close out the game as Vitesse scored twice in the second half. AZ sacked Ronald Koeman after the game, and are reportedly eyeing Dick Advocaat as his successor.
