Zurich are fourth in Group C with three points from five games, and can neither qualify for the next round of the Champions League nor the Europa League. However a win against Milan, coupled with a win for Marseille against Real Madrid, could see Milan being knocked out of the Champions League.
Zurich lost their Match Day 5 game 1-0 to Real Madrid. They beat Aarau 2-0 in their last Swiss Super League game in November, but December started inauspiciously for Bernard Challandes’ charges as they were beaten 1-0 by Grasshopper. Onyekachi Okonkwo returns from suspension for Zurich.
Milan drew 1-1 with Marseille on Match Day 5. The result saw them surrender top spot in Group C to Real Madrid. Marco Borriello opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the game for Milan, but Marseille equalised eight minutes later through Lucho Gonzalez.
Milan have been in stunning form in the Italian Serie A. Leonardo’s men have won seven of their last eight domestic games to rise to second in the table. They made short work of Sampdoria on Saturday, winning 3-0. Borriello put Milan ahead early after being set up by Ronaldinho and the Brazilian playmaker was again in action when Clarence Seedorf put the Rossoneri 2-0 ahead in the 21st minute. Alexandre Pato added the third two minutes later as Milan claimed their fifth straight league win.
