Canada will be looking to make it to their second straight semi-finals in Gold Cup action as they take on the team from Honduras on Saturday, July 18th. The Canadians have surprised most everybody as they are undefeated so far in the tournament and led Group A with a record of 2 wins and 1 tie. They were able to bear Jamaica and El Salvador and battled it out with Costa Rica, who also made it to the quarterfinals, in a tie. However their quarterfinal match up will be no easy feat as the Honduras has caused them all sorts of trouble over the past few years, but it will be a great opportunity for some revenge.
Honduras was able to cast aside the Canadian team twice during 2010 World Cup qualifying and single-handedly ended Canada's chances of moving on. Canada ended up with an abysmal record of 0-4-2 in the tournament which led to the firing of Dale Mitchell and the hiring of interim manager Stephen Hart who has been doing a good job leading the team so far. As mentioned by Hart himself the Canadians are going to need a much more balanced attack against Honduras and will be relying on goalkeeping and their defense.
Honduras will be looking to continue their recent success against the Canadian squad but a lot of things have changed since the last time they played. Canada looks like a completely different team, has been playing shut down defense and will be looking to make a major impact on the 2009 Gold Cup. And the best news yet is that you can catch every minute of the quarterfinals game between Canada and Honduras just by sticking by right here on OleOleFootball on Saturday, July 18th.
