Nicaragua and the Gwada Boys from Guadeloupe are all set for their second games respectively the 2009 Gold Cup tournament. Both teams had high hopes coming into the tournament however came out with quite opposite results in their first game. Nicaragua was pushed aside by a powerful Mexican team by a score 0f 0-2, while the Gwada Boys managed to stun Panama with a 2-1 victory.

In their game against Mexico, Nicaragua allowed one goal in the first half and then could not seem to hold possession of the ball throughout the entire second half. Pablo Barrera scored in the second half for Mexico in the opening match on Sunday and Mexico never looked back. While Mexico was the heavy favorite for the game, Nicaragua was expected to do some damage and at least get on the scoreboard. However due to the fact that it is the country’s first Gold Cup tournament they looked nervous and suffered from the jitters. They will look to use the experience from the game and turn things around when they take on Guadeloupe on Thursday, July 9^th.

The Gwada Boys came out strong in their opening game of the tournament as they took down the Central American Champions from Panama by a score of 2-1. The team was undermanned and missing 4 key players but still managed to pull out a win thanks to goalkeeper Marius Fausta and goals from Loic Loval and David Fleurival. While Panama fought back with a goal in the 68^th minute it was not enough to stop the surging team from Guadeloupe. They went on to win in impressive fashion and will look to prove themselves again against Nicaragua.
