The United States came out strong once again during this year’s Gold Cup as they controlled the play and downed Honduras by a score of 2-0. The game was close and the score was stuck at 0-0 until the USA got a goal from Santino Quaranta in the 75th minute of the game. Soon after the team got an insurance goal from Brian Ching as he headed the ball past Donis Escobar just 4 minutes later. The win puts the team from the United States at the top of group B with two straight victories as they get set to battle it out with Haiti on Saturday, July 11th.
Haiti’s fate is now in their own hands thanks to a 2-0 win against the struggling team from Grenada on Wednesday night. The Haitians received stellar play from most of the team and strode to victory on the back of two goals from Fabrice Noel and james Marcelin. Noel scored early on in the game with a free kick in just the 14th minute and Marcelin clinched the game in the 78th minute thanks to a glaring mistake from Grenada defender Anthony Modeste. Modeste took an empty swipe at the ball and left Marcelin in the clear for the goal.
A win from either team could guarantee them a spot in the quarterfinals. Should Haiti win they will have to wait and see how the other games play out. If the United States gets a victory they will walk into the next round with an undefeated record and you can be sure they will be coming out with their best effort.
