Group C was one of the most intriguing groups in the round robin portion of the 2009 Gold Cup. Mexico was the clear favorites coming in and were able to come out in first place. However it was not as easy as they expected thanks to a surprising run from Guadeloupe. They finished overall with 7 points thanks to victories over Nicaragua and Guadeloupe. All in all three teams made it out of Group C to qualify for the quarterfinals, Mexico, Guadeloupe and Panama.

Haiti managed to only finish in third place in Group B but still squeaked into the quarterfinals thanks to an impressive draw with the United States. They almost pulled out a stunning victory but the USA's Stuart Holden scored in the 91st minute. Even though they could no pull out the victory it was enough to keep their Gold Cup hopes alive. They will be looking to carry over that momentum as they will once again be the underdogs heading into their game against powerful Mexico.
