The Scots dominated their opening Euro 2012 qualifier against Lithuania, but could simply not get the goal they wanted for all three points. They enjoyed long periods of possession but could not make it count.

Craig Levein’s side were not helped by the referee, who turned a blind eye to Lithuania’s constant fouling. The home side were awarded only a total of four yellow cards when onlookers felt that more should have been dished out.

Liechtenstein, as expected, failed to really trouble reigning world champions Spain on Friday. The Group I whipping boys eventually slumped to a 4-0 defeat in Vaduz and dropped to the bottom of the group. They had only one shot on goal in comparison to Spain’s fifteen.
