The Group L table currently stands with German side Werder Bremen leading the way with ten points (already qualified for the Round of 32), Athletic Bilbao second with seven points, Portuguese team Nacional in third with two points, ahead of Austria Vienna on goal difference. Therefore Athletic Bilbao qualify with a win, but for either Austria Vienna (or indeed Nacional) to qualify they have to win their last two games.

When Vienna and Bilbao clashed in Spain on matchday one, the Spanish side emerged victorious with a comfortable 3-0 victory. That defeat rather set out the stall for the Austrians, who haven’t recorded a victory so far in the group, securing just two draws from their four games played.

Vienna have played eight times at home against Spanish opposition over the years in European competition, and they have only managed to win once in all that time; that was back in 2004 when they beat Real Zaragoza 1-0 in UEFA Cup group stage game. The other seven games they played finished with five draws and two defeats. Athletic Bilbao have only managed to win one of their last six games in European competition.

Austria Vienna are currently third in the Austrian Bundesliga and they have 29 points accrued so far. They are five points adrift of first placed Rapid Vienna. For their part, Athletic Bilbao are eighth in La Liga with seventeen points from eleven games played.
