This Europa League campaign has been one to forget for CSKA fans. Their side made an impressive start by holding Fulham to a draw on Match Day 1 but have since then gone on to lose their next four group games. They were beaten 1-0 by Match Day 5 by the Londoners.

CSKA beat Litex 1-0 in the Bulgarian Cup on Saturday. The result saw Litex bow out of the competition. CSKA thus also gained revenge for the 2-0 loss they suffered at the hands of the club from Lovech in the beginning of November. Litex currently lead the Bulgarian league table with a four point lead over CSKA.

Roma beat Basel 2-1 on Match Day 5 and followed it up with a 1-0 league win over bitter rivals Lazio. They were held to a goalless draw by fellow Champions League hopefuls Sampdoria away from home on Sunday night.

The Giallorossi did have their chances in the game, especially in the second half. Mirko Vucinic, who scored the winner against Basel, had his header tipped over the crossbar. Midfielder Simone Perrotta had his effort blocked by Angelo Palombo. In the first half, both Rodrigo Taddei and John Arne Riise came close to breaking the deadlock. In the end, Sampdoria were probably the happier team with a draw on a cold evening in Liguria.
