When these two teams clashed at Benfica a couple of week's ago, Everton and their 6,000 travelling fans were not expecting the result that eventually followed. 5-0 to Benfica was a sever jolt to the system for David Moyes and his men, and they also consequently lost top spot in the group standings to the Portuguese as well. The winner of the game on Thursday evening will rightly feel that they are in the box seat when it comes to eventually winning the group.

At the weekend in the English Premier League, Everton only drew at home with Aston Villa in a tempestuous affair; both teams ending the game with ten player’s virtue of a red card each. Everton took the lead in the game through Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (who was the Everton player who was subsequently sent off), only for Villa to equalise through John Carew.
