Hamburg did not manage to make the most of their home advantage in the first game and their fans were not too happy with the final result. They did dominate the game though and Fulham were lucky not to concede a goal. It was Hamburg’s inefficiency to turn their domination into goals which could come back and bite them in the second leg.

Fulham and their boss Roy Hodgson would have been absolutely delighted to come back from Germany without conceding a goal. This was very satisfying indeed for all concerned with the club, especially considering the travel chaos of getting to Germany in the first place. The only disappointment to come out of the encounter was the injury suffered by star striker Booby Zamora making his participation in the second leg doubtful.
