Liverpool beat Rabotnicki 2-0 in Skopje thanks to French striker David Ngog, who netted once in either half for the Reds. New manager Roy Hodgson enjoyed a tension free night in his first competitive game in charge as Liverpool cruised to victory.

In the first leg, Hodgson played without ten of his regular starters, including skipper Steven Gerrard. Star forward Fernando Torres, who missed the first leg, is also set to miss the return leg at Anfield. Liverpool’s last game was a friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach, which they lost 1-0. Rabotnicki failed to trouble an inexperienced Liverpool side on home soil. The Macedonian side were limited to one chance in the first half- an effort from Ze Carlos that posed no real threat to Diego Cavalieri in the Liverpool goal.
