Arsenal have found form just in the nick of time this season and it has seen them claw back a five point deficit to Aston Villa in fourth place, to a commanding eight point lead over them now, which has virtually sealed their qualification into next season’s Champions League along with Liverpool, Manchester United and FA Cup opponents, Chelsea.
Last weekend the team had a resounding 4-1 win away to Wigan, despite losing 1-0 at half time. Goals from Walcott and Silvestre as well as two from Arshavin and Song Billong in injury time sealed the deal for Arsenal, who really are on an impressive run of form. Manager Arsene Wenger knows he is long overdue in delivering a trophy to the Arsenal faithful, and will consider this season’s tilt at the FA Cup to be his best chance in a long time. Before Saturday’s clash though, the team have to traverse a tough Champions League game at home against Spanish side Villarreal after a 1-1 draw in Spain.
Chelsea are also playing well after the appointment of Gus Hiddink as temporary manager until the end of the season. They are in third position in the Premier League table with 67 points; three behind second placed Liverpool and four behind leaders Man Utd. They also have a Champions League game to face before the FA Cup semi-final game, and this is against fellow English team Liverpool, although their task is somewhat more straightforward than Arsenal’s after having won the first leg 3-1 away.
