Blackburn moved to seventh in the league as a result of their 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last weekend. An own goal from Baggies defender Gabriel Tamas, coupled with a stunning second half strike from Canadian David Hoilett, gave Rovers a 2-0 win over Roberto di Matteo’s battling side.
Rovers beat Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers 1-0 to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup. The decisive goal at Ewood Park was also scored by Hoilett. Villa also had a tricky tie away at Sheffield United but the Midlands outfit played well to run out 3-1 winners at Bramall Lane. The goals for Villa that day came from Kyle Walker, Marc Albrighton and Stiliyan Petrov.

Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers take a break from the rigours of Premier League battle when they clash at Villa Park on Saturday for an FA Cup 3rd Round fixture. Both teams would have preferred an easier task in their first foray into this season’s FA Cup rather than a game against a fellow Premier League side, but such is the luck of the draw and both will have to get on with it. See how they get on by joining us right here at oleolefootball.watchlive.net and enjoying the live streaming cup action from England at its very best.
Aston Villa are currently enjoying a great first half to the Premier League season. Martin O’Neill’s talented side are riding high in the league standings and are stringing some very impressive results together. They have already taken points of some of the so-called top four and have proven they are a force to be reckoned with.
At Villa Park, they have played nine games so far this season in the league. They have won six of these, drawn a further two and lost only one. With such an impressive home record to their name then, they start the game against Blackburn as favourites to go through to the fourth round.
For their part, Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn Rovers team are just a couple of points short of getting into relegation territory and although their position belies this fact, they are twelfth, a couple more league defeats could see them embroiled in a battle they would rather not be in.
They have played ten games away from home in the league so far this season, winning only one game, drawing two and losing seven.
