In the 2009/10 season, the two sides met in the sixth round of the FA Cup. They initially drew 0-0 at Loftus Road but Spurs ran out 3-1 winners in the replay at White Hart Lane to progress to the semifinals at the expense of the Cottagers.

A goal from young winger Andros Townsend and a brace for striker Jermain Defoe were enough for Spurs to beat Charlton 3-0 at home in the third round of the FA Cup a few weeks ago. Fulham, on the other hand, routed Peterborough United 6-2. Striker Diomansy Kamara netted a hat trick for the Cottagers, with Dickson Etuhu, Zoltan Gera and Jonathan Greening also getting on the scoresheet. Fulham dominated the game from start to finish and were deserving winners at the final whistle.

Fulham crushed League Two side Notts County 4-0 in the fifth round of the competition. Simon Davies broke the deadlock midway through the first half and in form striker Bobby Zamora made it 2-0 before the break. Damien Duff and Stefano Okaka Chuka also scored in the second half as the Cottagers showed the Magpies the door.

Tottenham, like Fulham, also won their fifth round tie 4-0. The Lilywhites were taken to a replay at White Hart Lane after Bolton had held them to a 1-1 draw at the Reebok. Harry Redknapp’s team hardly broke sweat as they demolished the Trotters 4-0 at home. Two goals from Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and two Bolton own goals allowed Spurs to book their spot in the sixth round.
