Gordon Strachan hasn’t had the best of times since taking over the Middlesbrough helm from Gareth Southgate. He has seen his team drop to tenth position in the championship and they are currently four points adrift of the last play-off position and a full ten points behind second position which offers an automatic place in the Premier League. They did, however, manage to win last time out when they beat Scunthorpe 3-0 at the Riverside.
Manchester City, for their part, started life under new boss Roberto Mancini with a 2-0 home Premier League victory last time out against Stoke City. Goals from Petrov and Tevez in the first half were enough to get the Mancini reign off to a good start. The result meant the team moved on to 32 points in the league (they are currently sixth), although they do have a game in hand over most of their rivals.
The teams form at Eastland’s so far this season has been good and in their nine league games there so far this season they have recorded six victories and nine draws. Mancini has declared that a top four position this season is the very least he expects from his team, whereas from next season he wants a serious tilt at the league title.
