Pompey struck four times in the space of twenty second half minutes to beat local rivals Southampton in the fifth round. Goals from on loan forward Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Aruna Dindane, Nadir Belhadj and Jamie O’Hara gave the South Coast side a 4-1 win. Avram Grant’s side were also victorious in the Premier League last week, clinching a rare away win thanks to goals from Frederic Piquionne and Hassan Yebda.

Birmingham also won last weekend. Alex McLeish’s men emerged 1-0 winners at home thanks to James McFadden’s spot kick on the stroke of half time. The penalty was earned by Keith Fahey. Blues reached the sixth round by beating Derby 2-1 three weeks ago. Liam Ridgwell scored a dramatic winner in the 91^st minute of that fixture.
