Rangers beat Hibs 3-2 in an exciting fixture at Easter Road last weekend. Steven Whittaker gave Rangers a dream start with a 2nd minute goal, but Steven Fletcher equalised for the hosts half an hour later. However second half strikes from Andrius Velicka and Maurice Edu allowed Rangers to win 3-2, and kept their title hopes alive.
Barry Ferguson’s much awaited return might not happen this weekend after the former skipper injured himself in a reserve game match against Hearts. Rangers had beaten Hamilton Academical 5-1 in the quarters. Kyle Lafferty grabbed a brace, with Steven Whittaker, Aaron Niguez and Steven Davis also getting their names on the scoresheet.
St.Mirren knocked out reigning SPL champions Celtic in the last round. Billy Mehmet scored the winner from the spot for the men from Paisley ten minutes into the second half. A win over the second Old Firm club will send St.Mirren into their first Scottish Cup final in 22 years.
St.Mirren gave their chances of survival a huge boost and ended Motherwell’s hopes of finishing in the top six when they beat Mark McGhee’s men 2-0 last week at Firk Park. Steven Thomson gave the Saints the lead in the 77th minute, and Andy Dorman struck a stunning volley three minutes from time to give the Buddies three precious points. Dorman has been linked with a summer move to Rangers, and a good performance on Saturday will see more clubs join his growing list of admirers.
