Reading completed an incredible comeback to beat West Brom in the fifth round. The Royals were trailing 2-1 in the replay with seconds to go but Brian Howard scored in the 93^rd minute to send the tie into extra time. A 25 yard stunner from Icelandic star Gylfi Sigurdsson then allowed Brian McDermott’s side to progress at the expense of the Baggies.

Aston Villa were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the finals of the Carling Cup last weekend. The Midlands outfit took the lead through James Milner but United did enough to claim victory and retain the title. Villa beat Crystal Palace in the fifth round of the competition, winning 3-1 in the replay thanks to two late John Carew penalties.
