Middlesbrough had to overcome Championship league leaders Wolves in a hard fought 2-1 win at the Molineux Stadium. Afonso Alves sent the Premier League side into the lead with a neat chip before Sam Vokes headed home the equaliser for Wolves. Substitute Marvin Emnes then earned his moment in the spotlight with a late second-half strike to avoid the tie going to a replay, which Gareth Southgate’s side could have done without as they sit joint bottom of the Premier League.
