Ireland v Georgia Live
The Republic of Ireland take on minnows Georgia in Group 8 of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers at 19:45 GMT on Wednesday 11th February 2009 which you can watch live here at oleolefootball.watchlive.net with football live online.
The fixture is just the 8th ever football tie to take place at the 80,000+ capacity Croke Park as Ireland’s usual home of Landsdowne Road is currently under-development until 2010.
The Republic of Ireland will look to extend their lead between them and the rest of the group as they sit 2nd in Group 8 with 7 points, 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Bulgaria and 3 points behind group leaders and favourites Italy.
Ireland began their World Cup qualification with a 2-1 win over Georgia back in September 2008 which was held at a neutral venue in Germany, due to the Georgia/Russia conflict over South Ossetia during that time. Kevin Doyle sent Ireland into the lead after just 12 minutes before Glenn Whelan took full advantage of a horrible error from Georgian keeper George Loria to double the lead. Levan Kenia almost rocked Ireland with a late goal in injury time but the game was over before the minnows could mount a real come-back, in what was Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s first game in charge.
Georgia are in desperate need of a win and could move up to 3rd should they shock Ireland on Wednesday, although Bulgaria and Montenegro will both have 2 games in hand on the Georgians.
