Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have both played two Club Friendlies already, and now they play each other on Saturday, August 1st, 2009. Arsenal is bringing a win and a draw for friendlies to the field when they play Madrid, and a record of ten wins, seven draws and only one loss in this year's Premier League matchups. In May, Arsenal played Chelsea for their only loss so far this year. Atletico Madrid drew with Ajax on their first club friendly, and lost to Sunderland in the second. In their Primera Division games they have played a total of twelve and have a less impressive record than Arsenal, with an even split of four wins, four losses and four draws.
1886 is when Arsenal got started, known as “The Gunners” by fans, and based out of Holloway, North London in the U.K. They bring a lot to bear against their opponents, with thirteen division one and premier league titles and a total of ten FA Cups, making them one of the most successful clubs in English Football. Mid-Fielder Cesc Fabregas captains the Arsenal team with Kolo Toure by his side as vice-captain. The squad this season is made up of sixteen different nationalities, with only three of its members from England.
Atletico Madrid plays at the Vicente Calderon Stadium when at home, and is a Spanish Club that is based in Madrid in the Primera Division. The club began in 1903, and has been hugely successful in the Spanish League throughout the years, taking home La Liga and Copa del Rey nine different teams, with 1996 seeing them take home both in the same year. In addition to winning La Liga nine times, they were also the runners-up eight times, with the most recent 1991. They were second in the final of the Copa del Rey the same number of times, with the most recent there being in 2000. Atletico Madrid were also the winners of the 2007 UEFA Intertoto Cup.
